Insight Genetics is developing proprietary assays around an allele-specific PCR platform to detect resistance mutations discovered by the inhibition of anaplastic lymphoma kinase. The challenge with kinase inhibitors like those targeting ALK is that, over time, patients can develop resistance, rendering the therapies ineffective. Insight Genetics holds an exclusive worldwide licensing agreement with St. Jude Children’s Hospital covering genetic mutations that confer resistance to ALK inhibitors. The diagnostic test under development will provide patients and healthcare providers with valuable, real-time information about the mutation status of ALK in cancers and help guide the prescription of alternate treatments. In addition, Insight is developing tools to investigate other mechanisms of resistance conferred by the parallel activation of other signaling pathways.
